On May 11, The Fragrance Foundation Associate Board presented “Pop Your Cork! One Sparkling Drop Changes Everything” at the City Winery. Mary John Baumann, Founder and President of Nose In The Glass hosted the event, and was joined by James Krivda, Senior Perfumer, Vice President, Mane USA and Laurent Le Guernec, Senior Perfumer, International Flavors & Fragrances Inc.
The affair was a place for an olfactive journey, pairing accords with wine and food. Guests looked at the color of a wine, sniffed it and tasted it. “This is an opportunity for us to share our passions together, challenge your nose and palette and to think beyond the obvious,” said Ms. Baumann. Mr. Krivda and Mr. Le Guernec made two different accords and one fragrance—which combined the two accords—based on what they smelled in a particular wine.
The six wine and food pairings were: Ruinart Blanc de Blancs NV, Reims, France and feta cheese and basil; Graham Beck Brut Rose 2008, Robertson, South Africa (PN/CH) and strawberry and raspberry; Ruinart Rose NV, Reims, France and dried apricot and cashew; Veuve Clicquot Rare Vintage Rose 1985 and smoked chicken; La Spinetta Moscato “Bricco Qualgia” 2009, Piedmont, Italy and pineapple and pear and Shingleback Black Bubbles Sparkling Shiraz NV, McLarenvale, Australia and chocolate. Following the wine tasting, there was a door prize drawing and reception.
